Hermanus Whale Watching Tour

1 Day

Escape to South Africa’s spectacular Whale Coast on our Hermanus Whale Watching Tour, featuring an unforgettable whale watching cruise (June to November). With your personal tour guide, it’s a curated full-day experience showcasing the very best of the Whale Coast, tailored to your interests and pace. Travel one of the country’s most scenic coastal drives – Clarence Drive, visit the African penguins at Betty’s Bay, and search for Southern Right whales from a boat and the Hermanus Cliff Top Path. Pause for lunch near the old harbour with sea views and, if you wish, round off the day with an optional wine tasting at an award-winning estate.

Private transport and hotel collection/drop off included. Serving Cape Town and Winelands region.

Hermanus Full Day Private Tour

The Hermanus Full Day Private Tour begins with a scenic drive through the Elgin Valley towards Hermanus. Depending on the day’s whale watching departure, you’ll enjoy an unforgettable whale watching cruise from Hermanus or Gansbaai, offering the opportunity to see Southern Right whales up close during the season (June to November). While sightings are never guaranteed, encounters are often spectacular.

After your cruise, enjoy a relaxed lunch overlooking the ocean at one of Hermanus’ popular waterfront restaurants, such as Bientang’s Cave or Perlemoen Restaurant (lunch is for your own account). Your guide will then take you along the famous Hermanus Cliff Path, where elevated viewpoints provide further opportunities to spot whales from shore and admire the rugged coastline.

If time allows, we can visit the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, renowned for its cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, where you can enjoy an optional wine tasting before continuing your journey.

Our return journey follows Clarence Drive, one of South Africa’s most spectacular coastal routes, often compared with Chapman’s Peak. Winding between the Hottentots Holland Mountains and the False Bay coastline, the route offers dramatic ocean views and several photo stops. On a clear day, you may even spot Cape Point across the bay.

Before heading back to Cape Town, we’ll stop at Betty’s Bay, home to a charming colony of African penguins. Watch them waddle across the rocks or dive into the surf from the boardwalk at the site of the old Southern Cross whaling station, while learning about these endangered birds in their natural habitat.

Designed for marine lovers, photographers, couples, and small families, this private tour offers the flexibility to travel at your own pace with a dedicated guide and vehicle, creating a relaxed and personalised experience from start to finish.
